I may have blogged about this before, but today’s marathon grading brings it to mind again. In junior high, I had friends who took a history class with a nut. At least I thought he was. No longer. He was simply beaten down by poor thinking and worse writing.

One of the teachers you can see in the photo I posted with Rep. Santorum was my instructor for European and AP European history. He called it the “buckshot method” of writing. You couldn’t just fire everything at the page then hope something hit, that professors would destroy our “buckshot” writing in college.

It’s always stuck with me.
